Strategic Partners
CBMR have crucial contributions made towards the progress of (Bio)Medical Education and Research within UAlg and the Algarve Region. CBMR is a fundamental Centre for the research strategy of the UAlg, both as a pillar of multiple bachelor and master degrees (e.g. Biomedical Sciences, Master in Oncobiology) and as a Centre with state-of-the-art Facilities, such as the CBMR Microscopy Unit – part of the Portuguese Bioimaging Platform (PPBI). Importantly, CBMR has a certified animal facility that is used by international researchers, both from academia (e.g. UCL, UK) and companies (Brainvectis, France). CBMR is also a founding partner of the Algarve Biomedical Centre (ABC), which is actively contributing to the improvement of the health system in the Algarve region, by promoting the connection of the university to hospitals, through the Integrated Master Course in Medicine, thus contributing to mitigate the unmet need of medical doctors in the region. We have a unique opportunity to strengthen basic and translational research at CBMR, taking advantage for example of the biobank facility that is being created within ABC. CBMR has experienced a growing impact in the regional context, meeting regularly with CCDR-Algarve to assess and design strategies for regional development and, CBMR is a crucial partner in the upcoming application of Algarve as the third region in Portugal as a reference site for Healthy Aging (along with CCDR and other regional entities).
